About the Liberty Paper Recycling Operatiopn

Liberty Paper

The Liberty Paper recyling facility was built in 1995 with the environment in mind.   The plant makes 100% recycled linerboard.  It recycles 200,000 tons of paper each year.  Old "corrugated containers" (boxes) are brought to the facility from around the midwestern United States.  This material is chopped up, mixed with water, cleaned, and then laid onto a machine to create new .

The picture above is the dry end of the "Dream Catcher" paper machine. A continuous sheet comes out of the dryer section at the right, and then gets rolled up onto 26 ton parent reels like the one shown on the left of the picture. These rolls of paper are about 16 1/2 feet wide. They are moved by an overhead crane to a machine called a Winder that re-winds the parent reel into 8 smaller rolls that weight about 3 tons each. It is these rolls of paper that are used by boxplants to make more "cardboard boxes".
It is a fascinating process that transforms old boxes to high quality paper for making more boxes. Liberty Paper's welcomes tourists to come in and see the operation. The company has a website. Liberty Paper Website . If you hunt around the site little bit, you can find a mini-tour of the papermaking process.
